Off to the Park!

Illustrated by Stephen Cheetham

Come along on an exciting trip to the park in this beautifully designed, interactive children’s book created to make reading an engaging and inclusive experience for all children. Which way should we go? What will we see? What can we play with? And what delightful surprise awaits at the end?

Created in association with BookTrust and developed in consultation with children, families, and organizations supporting blind and partially sighted children, Off to the Park! is a unique sensory picture book that invites children with different abilities to participate in the same joyful reading experience.

A familiar trip to the park becomes an opportunity to touch, explore, listen, look, play, and discover. Rhythmic, rhyming text encourages children to join in with the story, while tactile features and interactive play elements bring the journey to life. High-contrast illustrations help make the visual elements easier to explore, and Braille-style numbering provides an additional tactile feature for young readers.

Key Features:

• Inclusive and accessible design created for children of all abilities
• Tactile features encourage hands-on exploration and sensory discovery
• Braille-style numbering introduces children to tactile symbols and supports inclusive reading
• High-contrast images provide clear, engaging visual elements
• Interactive play features encourage children to participate in the story
• Rhythmic rhyming text makes the book fun to read aloud and easy for children to join in

More than a traditional picture book, Off to the Park! encourages children to experience a story through multiple senses. The combination of touch, visual contrast, sound through read-aloud rhymes, and interactive play can support sensory exploration, language development, communication, participation, and early literacy skills.

Designed with accessibility and inclusion at its heart, this sensory children's book offers families, educators, libraries, and caregivers a wonderful way to share reading together. Whether enjoyed independently or as a read-aloud, Off to the Park! celebrates the idea that every child should be able to take part in the magic of a shared story.
